Step into the enchanting realm of supernatural romance as we delve into the inspirations and writing process behind Jennifer Baker’s bestselling novel, “Mated to the Lycan King.” In this exclusive interview, Baker shares her creative journey, the development of mesmerizing characters, and the thought-provoking themes running through her work.

Part 1 Inspiration & Writing Journey

Q1: Hi Jennifer, could you share with us the inspirations behind crafting “Mated To The Lycan King” and what drew you to the paranormal romance genre?

I have always been captivated by the supernatural realm when I was growing up, and I must admit that my love for watching various movies and television shows featuring paranormal themes has never wavered. I truly enjoyed being part of a creative writing class throughout my high school years. Having immersed myself in a multitude of books and movies, I realized that I, too, could unlock my creative potential and venture into uncharted territory. As soon as I touched my pen to paper, I immersed myself in the world of my characters, unraveling their essence and defining their roles within my story. From that moment on, everything effortlessly fell into perfect alignment.

Q2: How do you approach world-building and creating unique supernatural elements in your writing? Can you tell us a little about the Lycan world you’ve built in this book?

I did some research on Google and mixed in a little of this and that to create the supernatural elements. I have had locations pulled up in Google, so I could see what the actual locations look like, so I could describe the surroundings properly. Especially when the Lycans step into the human world. As far as their actual surroundings; castles, forests, clearings, etc. I just pictured what I thought it should look like. The image that arises in my mind when I think of a hidden supernatural realm is of expansive, impenetrable forests, radiating an enchanting aura that guards a multitude of mysterious marvels. Magnificent clearings within these woods possess the potential to accommodate even the grandest of armies.

Q3: Your writing style has been described as captivating and emotionally charged. Can you share with us some of the techniques you use to create such compelling narratives?

Sure, I think of what an actual conversation may sound like. I write/type it out, and I go over it several times. When I develop my characters, I deeply contemplate their personalities and consider how real individuals would genuinely react when confronted with the circumstances my characters have experienced.

Part 2. Themes and story elements in “Mated To The Lycan King”

Q1: The main character in your book, Avalynn, goes through a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. What motivated you to create such a strong and resilient female protagonist?

In today’s society, it is crucial to demonstrate the value of embracing our differences, as they can be seen as assets rather than liabilities. No matter who you are, where you are, you are indeed strong and can be a leader. You just have to discover it for yourself.

Q2: The dynamics between Avalynn and Ryder are intense and complex. Can you share with us how you developed their relationship throughout the story?

Ryder is a prime example of an Alpha male, wholeheartedly convinced that he has the freedom to pursue his every desire. If something doesn’t meet his standards, he promptly discards it. He soon realizes the weight of his choice, and ultimately pays a dear price for it. I believe that it is important to recognize that the grass is not always greener on the other side. Appearances can be deceiving, and you shouldn’t always judge a book by its cover.

Q3: Bullying is a prevalent theme in the story. Were there any personal experiences or important messages that you wanted to convey through this aspect of the book?

Bullying is everywhere we look. From my early years until today, I have witnessed a distressing increase in bullying, particularly from those who hide behind their phones or keyboards. I never hesitate to defend myself or others when necessary. I aim to introduce a relatable aspect in the story that will resonate with numerous individuals. You never know what someone is experiencing, so there’s no harm in being kind.

Part 3. Impact and Connection with Readers

Q1: “Mated To The Lycan King” has garnered a lot of attention and praise. What do you think makes the book stand out in the paranormal romance genre?

I firmly believe that I have incorporated common human experiences into my book, making it relatable to others. I truly believe in the power of connecting with characters who unexpectedly stumble upon love, enduring the highs and lows, only to triumph in the end. The characters go through numerous challenges and hardships alongside each other, mirroring our own experiences.

Q2: As an author, what do you hope readers will take away from “Mated To The Lycan King” and your other works?

I hope my readers can dive into the book and become completely immersed in the world I have crafted. I hope that by relating to any experiences in the book, they realize that they are not alone in this world. I genuinely hope that my books can offer readers the resilience they need to overcome challenges.

Part 4. Future Ventures and Captivating Sequels

Q: What other projects are you currently working on, and can we expect more stories set in this captivating world?

I have another book that has been published here on Dreame, which is set in the captivating world of werewolves. The title of this extraordinary tale is “The Imperfect Prince and His Perfect Mate.” The book portrays the challenges faced by a man who is not the perfect partner, offering a unique male perspective. I am currently developing a second book for this series “Mated To The Lycan King” that will revolve around a character who has fallen from grace and been disowned by their family and friends. The book chapters will be released starting in December, at the latest. So be on the lookout!
